Eliza is usually quite calm and rational, being shaken by very few things. However, whenever Eliza is shaken, she becomes quite scared, and that is when her dark side comes out. When Eliza goes dark, she becomes colder and meaner, like there's a completely different side to her. However, it takes convincing for her to change back and "snap out" of her dark phase. However, when Eliza is calm, she is compassionate and forgiving towards others, something that she learned from her family. And lastly, Eliza is very intelligent, and never hesitates to learn something new. She's a gifted strategist with the talent of thinking ten steps ahead of her rivals.

Eliza Barnes was born on July 7th to Amory Barnes, a Fire Elementalist, and Sabrina Barnes, a human. At the time of birth, Eliza had an older brother named Geoffrey, who would protect Eliza and loved spending time with his little sister. For the first nine years of her, Eliza grew up in a safe household, free from trouble. But by the time she was nine and a half, that would all change.
See, Amory Barnes was considered to be one of the more psychopathic fire elementalists that was driven mad from power, but by marrying Sabrina and starting a family, he was able to calm down. But like every psychopath, he was never quite over his thirst for blood to kill. So one fateful night, Amory sent the kids outside, then set the family's farm house on fire.
Amory covered up the incident by saying that it was an accident, and the family needed to run away. However, Eliza would not leave without her mother, so she rushed back into the house to try and find her mother. After searching the house, she finally found her mother in the master bedroom, burning to death. All Eliza could do was hold her mother close in the burning house as her mother peacefully passed away. What shocked Amory the most though was that Eliza walked out of the burning house without a mark on her, which started to make him realize the truth - his daughter was like him.
At this point, Geoffrey had run away from the family to start a new life. Meanwhile, for the next two years, Eliza lived alone with her dad, where she was beaten and trained to death on a daily basis, not realizing that her father was trying to kill her because Eliza reminded Amory too much of his past and his deceased wife.
One day, Amory met a lady named Priscilla Middleton, an American Immigrant to England. Within six months, the two of them were married, and Eliza and Amory moved in with Priscilla and her two children, Ashton and Clara. Eliza couldn't stand Priscilla and her attitude, and Ashton was basically a carbon-copy of his mother. However, Eliza and Clara became very close with one another after Eliza saw Clara practicing a strange form of magic. Eliza would learn that these powers were known as Air Powers, which Clara also inherited from her birth father. Eliza also learned that Clara despised her mother and brother. So the two of them hatched a plan to rid themselves of the evil in their families once and for all.
The plan was simply to trap Amory, Priscilla and Ashton in the house, and then destroy the house and make it fly away with Clara's powers. So the two of them got work, and set their plan into action during a family meeting in the living room. During this meeting, Priscilla and Amory wanted to move away from their house and move back to America. Ashton accepted the idea, Eliza and Clara rejected it.
Amory was suspicious of the girls, and the three of them got into a heated argument, and Amory's psychopathic side came out again as he accidentally choked his step-son, Ashton, causing him to die. His step-wife, horrified, tried to call the police, but before the call could get through, Amory burned her to death with several fireballs before turning to the two girls. Eliza started facing her father one on one, while Clara started creating a cyclone. Eventually, Eliza was running low on energy, and with one more fireball, she would've disintegrated from energy loss. However, Clara made her cyclone rage through the house as the two girls ran for their lives, weak and weary. As the house and Amory were destroyed in the cyclone, Eliza passed out from exhaustion.
Two years later, at the age of 15, Eliza woke up from a coma and found herself in a reform home. Apparently, she was charged with the deaths of Amory, Ashton and Priscilla, but she couldn't be sent to prison because she was too young. So, Eliza spent her time in the facility learning and becoming more intelligent, and gaining a love for reading. Eliza was always worried about where Clara was, and made it her mission to go and find her. So on her sixteenth birthday, Eliza escaped the facility and started to search for her step-sister to no avail. One day, she collapsed again from exhaustion, and woke up in the infirmary of the academy. After being healed from her injuries, Eliza was enrolled in the academy, and has lived here ever since.

Mother: Eliza had a presumably strong relationship with her mother, and idolized how kind she could be to everyone. Her mother's death hit Eliza particularly hard.
Father: Eliza absolutely detested her father, whether it was for killing her mother, or training her to death, Eliza truly hated him and his psychopathic behavior.
Step-Mother (Priscilla): Again, Eliza detested her step-mother because of her attitude and how prissy she was.
Ashton Middleton-Barnes (Step-Brother): Eliza despised her step-brother, mainly because he was exactly like his mother.
Clara Middleton-Barnes (Step-Sister): Unlike the rest of her family, Eliza had a strong relationship with her step-sister, Clara. This could have been due to the fact that Clara was an elementalist, so the two of them thought alike. Eliza is protective of Clara, hence why after she woke up from her coma, the first thing she did was look for Clara.
Roger Norwood (Boyfriend): Eliza admires Roger for his gentle and calm attitude, and he always manages to make her smile. She likes Roger as more than a friend, and she knows that he feels the same way. She is scared of this, mostly because Eliza's never been in a romantic relationship, so she doesn't want to mess up anything. Eliza trusts Roger, and she has strong feelings for him.
